Keeping History Alive

Fort Malden National Historical Site
Fort Malden stood guard during the war of 1812 when Americans threatened to invade our shores. Fort Malden stands to remind Canadians of a time when our fate was determined by military action. Live musket demonstrations, tours of the fort as well as the opportunity to picnic with a beautiful view of the river. They also offer scavenger hunts to visiting youth.

King's Navy Yard Park
The Navy Yard allows residents to experience gorgeous award-winning gardens, artwork, waterfront views, and peaceful sitting areas. The park totals 10.5 acres and holds four historical buildings.

Amherstburg Freedom Museum
Previously known as ‘the North American Black Historical Museum,’ the Freedom Museum is a non-profit museum that highlights the stories of African-Canadians' contributions and history. It was founded in 1975 and aims to defend the idea of freedom for all by inspiring everyone to come together as a whole.

Park House Museum
Built-in the 1790s, the purpose of the Park House Museum is to collect, preserve, study and exhibit the heritage of the town of Amherstburg and its people. The non-profit collects artifacts and documents that provide insight into the complete history of Amherstburg.

GL Heritage Brewing Co.
The Waldron family has owned the land where the GL Heritage Brewing Company now stands for the last seven generations, since March 1850. The 2800 sq ft operation is equipped with state-of-the-art brewing equipment, grain mill, canning line, and more. All their drafts are brewed and canned in Amherstburg.

Waterfront Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt
Over 50 flavours of hand-scooped ice cream, Waterfront Ice Cream is known as a landmark in Essex County and was voted Windsor, Essex County, and Metro Detroit's number 1 ice cream parlour.
